LOREX LR-SA5 Battery Operated Smoke Detector
The LOREX LR-SA5 Battery Operated Smoke Detector is a standalone, battery-powered photoelectric smoke alarm designed to detect smoke particles in residential and light commercial spaces. It provides an important early warning layer for fire safety where a hardwired smoke detection installation is not available or practical.
LR-SA5 uses an optical smoke sensor and microprocessor-based detection to identify smoke in the air. Photoelectric smoke alarms are generally effective for detecting smouldering fires, which may develop slowly for hours before bursting into flame. Common sources may include cigarettes burning in couches, bedding or similar materials.
Key Features
- Photoelectric smoke detection: optical sensor technology for detecting smoke particles in the air.
- Standalone battery operation: suitable for locations where hardwired smoke alarm cabling is not practical.
- Microprocessor-based design: stable detection and reliable alarm operation.
- 9V battery included: supplied for convenient installation and commissioning.
- Test button: allows the user to check the system and sounder operation.
- 85dB sounder: loud alarm output at 3 metres for local warning.
- Weak battery warning: alerts the user when the battery voltage becomes low.
- Easy ceiling installation: compact ceiling-mounted design for homes, apartments, offices and similar areas.
- ABS case: practical housing suitable for indoor smoke alarm applications.
Applications
The LOREX LR-SA5 smoke alarm is designed for indoor use in areas where early smoke detection is required. Battery operation makes it a practical solution for existing buildings, apartments, small offices and similar premises where installing additional fire alarm cabling may be difficult.
- Homes and apartments
- Small offices and light commercial areas
- Bedrooms, living rooms and corridors
- Rental properties and temporary installations
- Locations where hardwired smoke detectors are not available or practical
Photoelectric Smoke Alarm Operation
The detector continuously monitors the air using its optical sensing chamber. When smoke particles enter the chamber and reach the alarm threshold, the device activates its internal sounder to warn occupants of a possible fire hazard.
Photoelectric smoke alarms are widely used for detecting slow, smouldering fires. These types of fires may generate visible smoke before open flames occur, giving occupants valuable time to evacuate or take appropriate action.

Installation and Maintenance Notes
LR-SA5 should be installed on the ceiling in accordance with the project requirements and local fire safety practices. The alarm should be positioned where smoke can reach the detector reliably and where the sounder can be heard by occupants.
Battery-operated smoke detectors should be tested regularly using the test button. Batteries must be replaced when required, especially after a weak battery warning, to ensure that the smoke alarm remains in proper working condition.
