Overview

The C-TEC BF375PEK is a compact and self-contained automatic door release system designed to ensure the reliable closing of fire doors in the event of smoke detection or other fault conditions. The kit includes one 24V 250mA double gang door release power supply with on-board detector circuit, two optical smoke detectors with bases, one electromagnetic door retainer and one flush fitting back box.

In normal conditions, the power supply energizes the door retainer to hold the fire door open. Optical smoke detectors are fitted on each side of the door. If one or more detectors enter alarm, the system releases the retainer and allows the door to close automatically. This helps maintain fire compartmentation while still allowing free movement through the opening during normal use.

System Operation

An important ancillary function of many fire alarm systems is the automatic closure of fire doors in the event of fire. On larger sites, however, it is not always practical to release every fire door throughout the building if the incident is limited to a distant area. For this reason, local automatic door release systems are increasingly specified to operate independently at individual door sets.

The BF375PEK has been developed for this purpose. During normal operation, the power supply energizes the electromagnetic door retainer so that the fire door remains open. A smoke detector is installed on each side of the protected opening. If one detector operates, if detector heads are removed, if a wiring fault occurs, if the on-board manual release button is pressed, or if an optional external manual release is activated, the system can be configured to release the magnet and close the door.

In many installations, one magnet is sufficient, but additional magnets may be connected if required. In most practical applications, two magnets are adequate to control a pair of fire doors.
